Since 2008, the month of September has been declared National Suicide Prevention Month—where time is taken to acknowledge those who have been affected by suicide and to raise awareness for individuals still struggling with suicidal ideation. Suicide rates increased 27% between 2000-2018 and decreased by 5% between 2018-2020. However, rates returned to their peak in 2022 according to the CDC.
