On this episode of Peachjar Extra Credit, Matt met with Jeanne Harrison, Founder of Traveling Players, to learn more about their mission to bring great theater into the great outdoors!
Traveling Players is recognized as one of the nation's premier performing arts programs. They specialize in immersive, high-quality theatre camps for the Virginia, Maryland, and DC areas. Their summer programs and year-round acting classes are designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and develop essential performance skills—on stage and off.
Their acclaimed summer theatre programs give students the extraordinary opportunity to stage classical plays in the great outdoors. With expert guidance from professional theatre artists, campers receive top-tier theatrical training while forming lasting friendships and enjoying the beauty of nature.
"Traveling Players helped me become more sure of myself and who I am as person, and that's translated into my life outside of here as well," said a Traveling Players student Cary Tran-Trong. "It's also helped me with public speaking and things like that. Overall it's sort of just helped me become a more outgoing and social person. Theater can have so many positive impacts outside of just performance. For me, as I said, it's really helped bolster my confidence and it's also a really big form of self-expression for me, and it's also how I process my feelings. There have been times when by portraying a character that's going through certain situation, that has helped me process by own feelings in a way that I wasn't necessarily able to just on my own."
