On this episode of Peachjar Extra Credit, Matt visited Tri-City Band Corps in Fremont, CA to learn more about how Tri-City Band Corps spreads the love of music through its major ideals of honor, loyalty, and education.

The Tri-City Band Corps was founded in 2004 with a goal to put learning and students first, envisioning an organization led and run completely by high school students. These students would be responsible for all aspects of the group including legal, music, membership, logistics, finance, and more.

Today, Tri-City Bands boasts a membership of over 2600 members and over 1000 alumni who have participated with us in one way or another. Tri-City Bands is the largest independent marching band program focused on community parades and is the only program run completely by high school students.

"We've been really pleasantly surprised to see that today over 75% of the section leaders in a lot of our high school programs are all alumni from our program" said Tri-City Bands Founder and Director, Harrison Cheng. "We're at the point where all of those students who used to be in our starting beginning band class are now the instructors and TA's, and even our program manager, she started in our program as an elementary student back in the day."
