Watts Basketball Creates Gamechangers for Life

On this episode of Peachjar Extra Credit, Matt is in Seattle, WA visiting Watts Basketball to learn more about their player development mission to develop basketball skills, encourage teamwork, and foster a sense of sportsmanship to help children grow in basketball and in life.

Watts Basketball is a Seattle-based youth basketball organization that offers player development based on an athlete’s level so each player continually feels challenged without feeling overwhelmed. Watts Basketball believes it is great to win games, but it takes real player development to improve. Putting too much emphasis on winning creates a focus on short-term satisfaction over long-term growth. At Watts their focus is on the big picture. They develop skills, encourage teamwork, and foster a sense of sportsmanship.

"The standard is your best effort," said Coach Watts. "That looks different for every kid. Don't be intimidated because somebodies best effort looks better than yours. If you give your best effort all the time you are going to be improve remarkably."
