Picture this: you’re out at a school or district event, capturing content for social media. You’re already at the event, capturing photos and videos—so why not make the most of that content? With just a little extra planning, you can turn one event into multiple social media posts that keep your community engaged for days to come.
Here’s an easy way to stretch your content into 3, 4, or 5 posts that highlight different moments and voices from the same event.
1. Reminder Post (Before the Event)
- Start by building excitement!
- Share photos or videos from past years or similar events
- Include important event information in the caption: date, time, location, and a friendly call to action
- Extra Credit Tip: A carousel post or short video works great
2. Day-of Event Post
- Show the event in action.
- Capture photos and videos on the spot, maybe sharing live-looks on social media stories
- Share a carousel or quick video highlights
- Include detail shots and candid moments
3. Testimonial Post
- Bring in authentic voices.
- Share a quick video or quote from a student, staff member, volunteer, or parent
- Highlight what the event means to them
- Make it personal and relatable
4. Thank You Post
- Give credit where it’s due.
- Thank volunteers, community partners, and staff who helped
- Tag organizations or individuals if appropriate
- Share behind-the-scenes photos or candid shots
5. Throwback Post or Recap Post
- Keep the momentum going.
- Revisit photos or videos from past years
- Use a #ThrowbackThursday or #FlashbackFriday hashtag
- Great for extending your content calendar
Some Extra Credit:
- Get creative! Each event is different and the content you create and curate for each can be as well.
- Don’t forget to gather diverse pieces of content while at the event so you have extra content for your calendar. Remember, getting photos or videos of families, students laughing, or even detail shots of the school/district building can be good background images or evergreen content you can use all year!
- Feel free to mix and match these post types or add your own creative twists. Maybe a fun poll, quiz about the event, or a spotlight on a student performance? The goal is to tell the story from different angles without extra work.
- When capturing photos or videos at school events, make sure you're up to date on relevant privacy laws and policies regarding student images.
