January Engagement Ideas for the New Year

Happy New Year! We hope your 2024 is off to a great start. The turning of the year always brings in a sense of new: ideas, organizations, plans, and more. It’s a great time to plan out your personal and professional goals for the year ahead and outline new ways you want to organize and track that information. While it’s not quite halfway through the school year, it can certainly feel like it! We hope you enter this month rested and ready to take on 2024! If you’re looking for some fun ways to connect with your district’s community, you’ve also come to the right place. We’ve gathered some fun days and themes that you can use this month on social media and any direct messaging to families. 

National Trivia Day
Okay—who doesn’t love a good trivia game? There’s certainly a reason that Jeopardy! has been around as long as it has (but there were others before it, such as a 1940s era radio program). National Trivia Day is January 4th and is a fun way to have some social media engagement. You can post trivia about your district, community, and individuals that your district is made up of. You can separate questions into categories such as sports, arts, classes, and people to give it a well-rounded feel. Trivia can also be played in school as a week-long event with prizes or a brief ceremony at the end of the week. No matter how you play this one, trivia is a well-loved game and people love to take part in the fun. 

National Compliment Day 
We could all stand to give and receive more compliments! On January 24th, make it official and celebrate National Compliment Day with us. Encourage others to give compliments but remind them to be truthful, positive, and specific. This can come in the form as a call-out on social media or every day in school. Not only are giving and receiving compliments fun ways to connect with others, but they scientifically have a positive impact on you. Studies suggest that compliments can help you to learn and better other skills.
